Nokia N95 for the new year
The ultimate cameraphone is getting close. The N95 isn't quite it, but it must be near to the perfect combination of phone and camera.
The image resolution is 5 megapixels, as good as many SLRs. There is no zoom, but with that resolution a zoom is unnecessary for general snapping.
One of the difficulties of cameraphones as a breed is the need to press buttons to change from phone mode to camera mode (and more buttons to change to MP3 mode).
The N95 provides a very neat solution. To make a phone call, slide the screen up and the keypad is revealed, as the phone automatically goes into phone mode. Slide the screen down, and a set of multimedia buttons in the standard rewind-pause-play-fast forward format is revealed, and the phone goes into multimedia mode, either to play music, video or take pictures.
The main camera lens has a cover, which is an improvement on the highly losable lens cap on the N93.
The N95 is set for sale in the new year at about £300 without a contract.
